Northern NM Fishing Report 5/29/25

Fishing has been pretty good this week, with ‘runoff’ receding and bugs hatching.

Caddis are out on the Rio Grande (as of 5/27), 3 different sizes. I can’t say the fishing was fast in the Racecourse, but caddis nymphs were functional. Flows were way below where they typically are this time of year and plenty fishable. I did see a couple risers as I was leaving toward dusk.

The Pecos was “on fire” (as of 5/28) with giant stoneflies everywhere in the Dalton Canyon.

Fish were actively feeding on big stones, mostly under water though I did get a little interest with a big orange stonefly dry. It’s a great time to get out. Pecos flows are still a little high but you can definitely fish. I have some availability, so contact me if you are looking for a guide trip.
