Higher, off color water but fishing is still pretty good

Afternoon thunderstorms have pretty much blown out the Rio Grande, so I focused this week on the Pecos and rivers further north.
Pecos (6/3)
The stonefly hatches continue, with loads of salmonflies making their way upriver. Golden stones are joining them, as are the occasional caddis and PMD. Fishing 6/3 was great, with fish eager to hit both stonefly (like rubberlegs) and mayfly nymphs as well as some slower action on a Stimulator. It’s a little more off color now, but I’d still fish the Pecos.

PMD
Brazos (6/5)
The Brazos was definitely off color, and didn’t look like it was going to be productive. But it was on 6/5. Tons of PMD’s in a consistent hatch didn’t seem to interest the trout, who were mainly interested in stonefly patterns and larger nymphs. I had to leave mid afternoon, maybe they turned on to the PMD’s later…
As water levels come down a bit and the water clears up I think we are going to see some really good fishing in Nothern New Mexico over the next week or so.
